Amanda Bossard was just out her high school days when she started her studies in marine biology at Alaska PacificUniversity in Anchorage. Bossard began her career in the commercial seafood industry in 1999, when she started working aboard the F/V Sunset 65' halibut schooner that has been a salmon tender for Murat Aritan, who has been a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard is currently engaged to Aritan and the couple has united to make their claims to the industry. The two are proponents of preserving sustainable and renewable sources of seafood. In 2007, she became a mother to two kids Bella aged 3 as well as Andre 1 Bossard and then relocating back to live in Philadelphia and opened an online direct market wholesale seafood distributor named Otolith. Her husband and she are separated by 5 months and more for her to concentrate on her financial goals and her environmental goals. Bossard, her son Andre and Isabella, her daughter Isabella will be returning to Southeast Alaska every summer as deckhands during the harvest of wild salmon. A small 42-salmon troller using hooks and lines to capture their salmon, they join Aritan during two consecutive months, selling to local processors. They also continue to grow their direct market seafood items sold via Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way of purchasing the custom processing services of small processors to create unique wild seafood products that reflect their commitment to quality and the natural environment.
